FUEL
Hope Chapel’s School of Discipleship & Ministry
Hope Chapel is launching FUEL, an exciting full-time opportunity for young adults ages 18-25 to immerse themselves in discipleship, ministry training, leadership & character development
What makes our ELN unique?
FUEL is our commitment to the spiritual formation of the next generation of leaders in God’s kingdom. In addition to academic studies and hands on ministry training, each student will receive personal mentoring and the discipleship that is so needed and desired at this stage of life.
OUR MISSION
To replicate the heart, ministry and mission of Jesus Christ in the lives of emerging generation leaders. FUELED by Jesus’ vision, values, and the power of the Holy Spirit they will reach the whole world with the whole gospel.
Our plan is to FUEL students with the knowledge, skill and character necessary to propel them into the abundant life that Jesus came to offer regardless of what vocation they may pursue in the future.
God is looking for a generation of culture creators, young people who would rise above the status quo and change the environment around them. Our goal as a leadership team is to recognize, cultivate and release the dreams and talents within each student.
OUR FOCUS
FUEL’S focus is three fold. First: Being FUELED in purpose to, LOVE Passionately, LEARN Continually, LIVE Abundantly & LEAD Courageously. Second: Being FUELED in the discovery of individual gifts, dreams and calling. Third: Being FUELED to serve and learn within the framework of a missional local church setting.
OUR STRATEGY
FUEL is a full-time discipleship process where students are immersed into three pools of learning: hands-on training, curricular studies, and personal development.
HANDS.HEAD.HEART
Hands-On Training – Where Ministry & People Skills are Formed
One of the major elements of FUEL is its, “in-the-trenches” & “Ready, Fire, Aim” approach to developing ministry and leadership skills. Students spend a great deal of time each week (often over 20 hours) serving in various ministry capacities within the church and out in the community. They are involved in up-front, public ministry and behind-the-scenes work as well.
Curricular Studies – Where Missional & Theological Understanding is Formed
Classroom studies help students make the Word of God their foundation for life and ministry. Through independent study, instruction, dialog, debate, reading, personal study, memorization and meditation, students hone their understanding of apologetics, biblical theology, ministry & life-giving mission in the context of a learning community.
Personal Development – Where the Person is Formed
The most important component of FUEL is the focus upon each student’s personal discipleship. Many colleges and internships focus heavily on doing and thinking but don’t concentrate on who the student is becoming. This is not the case with FUEL. On a near-daily basis, students are encouraged and challenged to move to new levels of faith, excellence and righteousness in their private and public lives. This personal discipleship is facilitated by interaction with pastors, FUEL staff, Host-Families, and other leaders at Hope Chapel. Discipleship also occurs as students learn to support one another and hold each other accountable.
On top of the classes, ministry tracks, discipleship, outreaches and events, we start every morning with worship and prayer. This is a time dedicated to growing closer to God both individually and in community.

What is a Hope Chapel/FUEL Host-Family?
First, they are a blessing to a young emerging leader who will be changed for a lifetime by the season spent in the home of his or her Host-Family. Second, they are a blessing to the Hope Chapel family. We couldn’t operate FUEL without these gracious men and women of God. Third, they are helping fulfill the Great Commission, “to make disciples…” and become a vital part of the FUEL ministry team.
A Host-Family’s home is also a shelter and refuge for a FUEL student who is in the midst of an intense time of discipleship, ministry training and education. By providing relationship along with room and board for a young adult, it frees that student to concentrate on Gods shaping work in his or her life. Host-Families are an integral part of the student’s growth during our ten month FUEL program.
YOU Can be Host-Family!
If you are passionate about investing in the lives of young people, we would love to give you more information about how you can host a FUEL student in your home! Please email Sarah or Jeff at sarah@hopechapelofthevalley.com

General Classes
Scripture Study
Core Values
Essentials
Bible Studies
Independent Studies: All students will participate in these General Classes every week. Classes will be determined three weeks before the semester begins in consultation with students & the FUEL staff.
Scripture Study & Memory: Students will be required to memorize one to two scriptures each week and will be tested on them every Tuesday morning. By the end of the year students will have memorized more than fifty Bible verses.
Core Values is a class, taught by a second year student, where we dig deep into the lives of history makers and learn from all kinds of people who have changed the world before us.
Practical, Cultural Theology & Biblical Studies are classes and or discussions etc. dedicated to making the bible and theology real and alive in the way we interact and connect with God and people. It’s about discovering the deepness of God in a very simple and understandable way. God is very real and so His word should not be a boring text book, but rather His word is meant to be exciting to our hearts and exhilarating to our Christian walk. Our studies are geared towards making God as close and as real to you as He desires you to be, so if you don’t understand much about the Bible or if you have been studying for years, God always wants to be closer. In these classes everyone learns more.
Ministry Tracks:
Ministry tracks take place 2 afternoons each week. Tracks are split up into trimesters so each student will have an opportunity to be in 3 different tracks during their time in the program. The tracks that we currently offer are listed below.
Children’s Ministry Training
*Culture Creators:
Media
Outreach
Worship and Music Development
Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry Training
Children’s Ministry Training:
Hope Chapel’s children’s ministry is an essential part of our church. We’ve created new adventurous worlds and themes in each of the rooms so that when a child comes into the building they can forget about their problems, have fun, and be loved by the ministry team. Students will be a part of planning weekly lessons, worship, and creatively meeting the children where they are.
Culture Creators:
The creative communications track teaches and allows students to explore the creative arts. Some of the areas the students learn about include writing, photography, film & videography, painting, spoken word, dance, fashion design, drama, and many more.
*This is a track we are currently working on. It will be offered in partnership with the Christian Performing Arts Center and other churches in the area.
Media:
This track is designed to teach students how graphic design and media presentation works and enable them to have a part in the media that is produced for use at Hope Chapel and REVOLUTION. The creative input and ability that they have and acquire are put into practice in this track.
Outreach:
The heart of Hope Chapel is outreach, and we want to instill that heart in the students of FUEL. The outreach class goes out into the community and loves people. They are involved with ministries of the Hope Chapel such as Laundry Love, Treasure Hunts, Mission Winnetka and other churches and ministries, such as the Dream Center’s Adopt-A-Block etc. and doing other acts of service as needed in the community. They will also learn fundamental principles of raising money, coordinating events, and mobilizing volunteers.
Worship and Music Development:
The Worship and Music Development track offers students a well-rounded knowledge of music theory, song writing and how to lead worship. Students will also be taught how to read and write music as well as how to play different instruments. We believe worship is more about how you live off the stage than how you perform on it.
Youth Ministry:
Hope Chapel’s youth group, Relentless and youth service FREEtheINSIDE, are high energy, fun filled, and spiritually deep services for the youth from the surrounding community. The students in this track get to organize and plan the service, make connections with the youth, and bring in more students to attend. This track is a great way for students to be involved with the youth and make an impact in their lives.
Youth Ministry Training:
The Youth Ministry training track is one in which students will learn the ins and outs of youth ministry. From service development to administrative work and from mentorship to outreach, students with a desire to work with young people will learn exactly what it takes to be effective in today’s youth culture.
Ministry
What sets FUEL apart from other ministry programs is that students will be serving the local church and community. Students of FUEL are directly involved in the ministries of Hope Chapel. Serving the local church and community will inspire and encourage students and their relationship with Christ because they will constantly be used by God to bring His love and power into the lives of others.
